CADDRA member and Newfoundland psychologist, Dr Janine Hubbard, welcomes the announcement by the Newfoundland and Labrador Government to increase the scope of practice for pharmacists in the province.
The ability for pharmacists to renew ADHD prescriptions for many “orphaned” patients (those without access to a family doctor) was one of the requests made by CADDRA advocates, including Dr. Hubbard and board members Dr. Joan Flood and Dr. David Wong, when they met with Minister of Health Tom Osborne last October in St. John’s on the occasion of the CADDRA conference.
Dr. Hubbard says, “This will be a much-needed relief (and improve long-term health outcomes) for a huge number of individuals to access stable long-term prescriptions for ADHD as well as a number of other physical and mental health concerns”.
Pharmacists will now be able to extend prescriptions for up to 12 months. Click here to read the press release.
